How to choose a brown paper roll

Pure kraft or imitation kraft?

Pure kraft is made for strength: it resists tearing and suits heavy daily wrapping and void fill. Imitation kraft is a lighter, lower-cost brown paper with the same look, suited to gift wrap, book covering, craft and light parcels. Our 25m rolls are 70gsm imitation kraft; the 215m and 250m trade rolls are pure kraft.

How much paper is on a roll?

Multiply width by length. A 500mm x 25m roll gives 12.5 square metres; a 750mm x 215m roll gives about 161 square metres; a 500mm x 250m roll gives 125 square metres. If you wrap or void-fill every day, one trade roll replaces several short rolls and means fewer changes at the bench.

The 215m and 250m rolls are sized for e-commerce packing benches, print shops, framers and warehouses. Schools, theatres and film productions often buy the 900mm roll for display boards and set protection. For repeat or larger orders, contact us.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between brown paper and kraft paper?
Kraft paper is a strong brown paper made by the kraft pulping process. Most brown wrapping paper sold as “brown paper” is kraft or imitation kraft.

Which width should I buy for parcels?
750mm wraps most parcels in one pass. Choose 500mm for small items and void fill, and 900mm for large or flat items such as framed art.

Do you sell kraft paper sheets?
Kraft paper sheets appear here when in stock. Otherwise a roll can be cut to any length.

Can I use brown paper as void fill?
Yes. Scrunched kraft paper fills gaps in boxes and stops items moving. Pure kraft is best because it holds its shape.
